World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second successive year.

The twenty-seven-year-old won four tournament victories – the most on tour – which included successfully defending the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth career Grand Slam singles title.

A Season of Dominance

Across the season, Sabalenka reached a tour-best nine championship matches, with losses coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.

The Belarusian also claimed victory at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She spent the whole season as the world number one, concluding 2025 on top of the rankings for a second straight year.

In July, she achieved the status of being the first athlete to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.

Historic Achievements

Sabalenka concluded the season with a sixty-three to twelve win-loss record, and picked up a record eleven million pounds in prize money.

She garnered almost 80% of the votes submitted by global tennis journalists.

On 28 December, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match in a bid to "elevate women's tennis to a higher level".

Additional WTA Award Winners

• Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, received the award after taking 13-month break after the birth of her first child and returning to the sport at the start of this year.
• Newcomer of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko received the award after beginning the season ranked outside the world's top 300 and rising to the eighteenth spot.
• Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after capturing their second career Grand Slam title together.
• Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after making five finals.

Recently, Carlos Alcaraz won three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as the fan favorite for a third consecutive time.
